The Navy Times reports that at least one Marine and a Navy officer fired at the Chattanooga shooter who killed five service members last week at a Navy Operational Support Center. It is unclear why the Marine and Navy officer were armed, as it is against Defense Department rules for them to carry guns on federal property. Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White was reportedly the Navy official who opened fire. The Marine’s identity has not been released. An autopsy and ballistics assessment will reveal whether either White or the Marine shot and killed the suspected gunman, Muhammad Youssuf Abdulazeez.
