Netflix announced Tuesday it would increase its prices by as much as 60 percent for plans that include DVDs and online streaming of movies. The company will no longer offer the $9.99-a-month plan for unlimited streaming of movies and DVDs, and customers who want both those services will have to pay $15.98—$7.99 for the online streaming and $7.99 for DVDs. In a blog post, Netflix said the price change was due to the continuing popularity of the DVD format among customers. The plan made little sense to Netflix customers, with 9,000 of them storming Netflix’s Facebook page and threatening to quit the company. The new prices take effect September 1.
