Brazilian prosecutors charged its ruling party’s treasurer along with 26 others in connection to a bribery scandal at the national oil company Petrobras on Monday. Prosecutors accuse Workers’ Party Treasurer Joao Vaccari of seeking donations from Petrobras’s ex-service chief Renato Duque and other executives who have been indicted for money laundering, bribery, and funneling money from the company to politicians. The charges come a day after hundreds of thousands of people protested Brazil’s corruption and called for President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment over her alleged role in the scandal. Rousseff, who maintains her innocence, said Monday she will send anti-corruption legislation to Congress this week and supports political reform.
