The West African countries hardest hit by the Ebola epidemic experienced their slowest weekly pace of case increases since June. Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone had 99 new cases of Ebola last week, the first time the combined total fell under 100 since early last summer, according to the World Health Organization. While the news is good, the Ebola epidemic is still considered “widespread and intense” in the region, according to WHO. There are still 22,000 confirmed Ebola cases and 8,795 deaths from the virus in the region.
