Mufid A. Elfgeeh, 30, has been charged with trying to provide material support to ISIS for allegedly helping three men attempting to travel to Syria to “engage in violent jihad.” Elfgeeh is also charged with the attempted murder of current and former members of the U.S. military, as well as possession of firearms equipped with silencers. According to law-enforcement officials, he planned to use the weapons to kill U.S. veterans returning from Iraq. Elfgeeh was arrested in May in Rochester, New York, as part of a sting operation. Two of the men who said they were planning to go to Syria were cooperating with federal authorities.
