Once the most dangerous city in the U.S., Newark, New Jersey appears to be changing. For the first time since 1966, the city has gone an entire calendar month without a single murder, The Star-Ledger reports. The current string of non-murders is 32 days long, but Police Director Garry McCarthy hopes to draw it out long enough to beat the 43-day nonviolent period enjoyed by the city from March to April of 2008, which was the longest such stretch since 1961. In the first quarter of this year, only ten homicides have occurred in Newark, the city's second lowest total since 1941.
