You never hear about Republicans flipping over to support the immigration bill, so this is new. New Hampshire Republican Kelly Ayotte said on Sunday that she will vote for the bipartisan immigration bill that has lost the support of some other key Republicans. “Our immigration system is completely broken,” Ayotte said on CBS’s Face the Nation. “This is a thoughtful, bipartisan solution to a tough problem, and so that is why I am going to support it.” The President Obama–endorsed bill will provide a path for citizenship for undocumented immigrants—a key sticking point for some Republicans, whose support is necessary to pass the Senate. On Fox News Sunday, Kentucky Republican Rand Paul hinted that he is “willing to compromise” on the bill, but that the bill “doesn’t secure the border.”
