Nine officers are facing disciplinary action for failing to flag any potential warning signs in the behavior of Major Nidal Hasan, accused of killing 13 soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009. The nine officers were in Hasan’s chain of command at the Walter Reed Medical Center and the military’s medical school. While an investigation previously revealed that “no single action” led to the deadly shooting, the officers are being accused of ignoring alleged signs of Muslim extremism on Hasan’s part prior to the shooting. In February, a bipartisan Senate report found that the Department of Defense and the FBI had prior knowledge about Hasan’s activities, and enough to have him discharged.
