If Gen. McChrystal was hoping that NATO would boost troops in Afghanistan as the U.S. drags its heels on a further deployment, he's sadly mistaken. Germany and the Netherlands, which have 4,200 and 2,160 troops in Afghanistan respectively, are holding off on further troop deployment until Obama produces a fresh strategy and to see whether Afghanistan's Nov. 7 run-off presidential election creates a legitimate government. The announcement came Friday during a meeting of defense ministers from NATO's 28 countries. Help from other countries doesn't seem forthcoming either. The Danish representative suggested that most NATO allies would feel out the new Afghan government's commitment to NATO goals before increasing troop presence.
