In a press conference, the New York City mayor proposed initiatives for Congress to take to reduce gun violence, including an assault-weapons ban. ‘The president and Congress can and should take these measures at the same time they’re reaching an agreement on avoiding the fiscal cliff… If Congress and the president can’t focus on two things at once, who on earth did we elect?’
Madonna’s Cigarette Tantrum
The Queen of Pop took her role a little too seriously when she refused to sing after seeing some of her fans smoking before a big show. “If you’re gonna smoke cigarettes, I am not doing a show!” Madonna exclaimed during her sound check.
Obama: ‘They’re All Our Children'
President Obama delivered a moving speech at Connecticut’s Newtown High School, over audible sobs in the audience, acknowledging that the community will be remembered for “stories of strength, resolve, and sacrifice.” The president promised that he would use his position to prevent “more tragedies like this.” He read the names of all 20 children who were killed and implored America to “make our country worthy of their memory.”

NRA Gets Interrupted
Well, this is awkward. During the NRA’s first public statement in the week since the Newtown school shooting, a protester rushed the stage with a sign proclaiming, “NRA KILLING OUR KIDS.”
The Voice Sings for Newtown
The Voice’s 20 contestants, along with its four celebrity judges and hosts, opened its third season finale with a touching musical tribute to the 20 children and six adults killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Each holding a sign bearing the name of each life lost, they gathered on stage to sing a rendition of “Hallelujah.”
Miss Venezuela’s Baffling Response
During the question-and-answer round of Wednesday night’s Miss Universe competition, Miss Venezuela blew everyone away with her perplexing answer to the question, “If you could make a new law, what would it be and why?” Even though her surfing analogy baffled many, the Venezuelan beauty still managed to take second runner-up!

Golden Eagle Grabs Small Child
In this viral home video, a golden eagle appears to swoop down from the sky and almost kidnap a toddler for its dinner. Any doubts about the video’s authenticity were apparently warranted, when it was revealed that university students from Montreal-based Centre NAD had created the hoax.
