Oakland, California, got its third police chief in a single week Wednesday as interim Police Chief Ben Fairow was let go. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf did not provide specifics about the shift in leadership. Late Wednesday, Bay Area Rapid Transit officials said Fairow would return as its deputy police chief and officials were made aware that he had had an extramarital affair with a consenting adult more than a decade ago. Former Oakland Police Chief Sean Whent resigned last week for personal reasons. The moves come amid an investigation that has revealed as many as 21 officers had sex with a teenage sex worker who is the daughter of a police dispatcher.
