President Obama has often criticized the gender pay gap, but it turns out he might be throwing stones while living in a glass house. A study from the American Enterprise Institute shows that female White House staffers make on average 88 cents for every dollar male staff members make. According to the top conservative think tank, the median annual salary for women at the White House was $65,000 while for men it was $73,729. Sounding a lot like the companies that have been criticized, press secretary Jay Carney blamed the gap on women filling lower-level positions: “Men and women in equivalent roles here earn equivalent salaries.”
