In an English-language video with Persian subtitles, President Obama wished Iranian youth a happy Persian New Year on Thursday—and asked them to urge their leaders to strike a nuclear deal with the U.S. “Iran’s leaders have a choice between two paths,” Obama said. “If they cannot agree to a reasonable deal, they will keep Iran on the path it’s on today—a path that has isolated Iran, and the Iranian people, from so much of the world, caused so much hardship for Iranian families, and deprived so many young Iranians of the jobs and opportunities they deserve.” It’s not clear how much of a splash the video made within Iran, where authorities often censor the Internet. On Friday, the administration issued another statement inquiring about the well-being of U.S. citizens detained in Iran.
