The Bush continues: President Obama is planning to rescind former president Bush’s controversial “conscience clause,” which took effect on Bush’s final day in office. The clause allows health care workers to decline services that violate their consciences and was intended to protect doctors who did not want to perform abortions. Next week, the Department of Health and Human services will begin the process to formally rescind the measure, although it will allow the public to comment on the move for 30 days.
