An assault-weapons ban may not have made it into the gun control proposal Sen. Harry Reid will bring to the floor, but the Obama administration is now pressuring the Senate to vote publicly on a proposal to eliminate the weapons as an amendment “It will be a question for all 100 members of the Senate to ask themselves about whether or not they think that voting for and supporting an assault weapons ban would actually do something to reduce gun violence in communities all across the country," Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday at the White House briefing. "We’re going to have that debate,” Earnest said, clarifying that the president does not in fact support a National Registry of gun owners—something Karl Rove accused him of over the weekend on ABC’s This Week.
