President Obama is widening his lead with Latinos in important swing states. Obama enjoys the biggest lead in Arizona, where 72 percent of Latino voters favor him over Romney. On average, he leads Romney 63 to 27 percent with Latino voters in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, and Virginia. It is estimated that Romney would need 40 percent of the Latino vote to win the general election. Obama’s popularity surge has been attributed to his pledge to halt many deportations of young illegal immigrants. Romney, who has yet to release his own general plan on illegal immigration, has criticized Obama’s plan as unviable in the long term and easily reversible.
