Officials say the man charged with killing five people when he drove through a group of bicyclists with his car in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was under the influence of drugs at the time. Charles Pickett Jr. is facing second-degree murder charges, among others, from the June 7 incident. Prosecutor Jeff Getting added a charge of driving while intoxicated causing death to Pickett’s slew of others, but he declined to elaborate on what the “controlled substances” were. Pickett will also be tested for competency in a mental-health exam.
