Ohio’s Local Battle
As Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum vie for bragging rights in Ohio, two veteran congressional Democrats are carrying out their own battle. Because of redistricting, incumbent Democrats Marcy Kaptur and Dennis Kucinich have found themselves fighting over the same seat. Kaptur is considered the likely winner, though little polling data from the district is available. In the lead-up to Tuesday's primary, the candidates have made several digs at one another. Kaptur accused Kucinich of being linked to scandal-plagued County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora, while Kucinich has slammed Kaptur for supporting costly Bush policies. Today, Kaptur released a radio ad comparing Kucinich to LeBron James and Art Modell, two former Ohioans who abandoned the state.
Club for Growth Backs Stenberg in Nebraska
Chris Chocola, president of the conservative Club for Growth, announced his organization's support for Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg's insurgent Senate campaign. "Don Stenberg is a lifelong champion of economic freedom and will be an ally for fiscal conservatives in Washington," said Chocola, a former Indiana congressman, in a press release. The endorsement is the latest boost to Stenberg’s bid to best state Attorney General Jon Bruning. Stenberg, who lost a previous Senate bid in 2000, has also received endorsements from Sen. Jim DeMint, former U.S. attorney general Ed Meese, and Utah Sen. Mike Lee. He joins Arkansas’s Tom Cotton, Indiana’s Richard Mourdock, Utah’s Carl Wimmer, and Iowa’s Steve King among the congressional candidates the Club for Growth has already endorsed in this election season.
Feingold Endorses Illinois's Sheyman
Young buck Ilya Sheyman's congressional campaign got a major endorsement today from former senator and current Obama reelection co-chair Russ Feingold. The 20-something community activist who’s running to replace incumbent Republican Robert Dold in the Illinois House of Representatives has already been endorsed by former DNC chair and Vermont governor Howard Dean, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and MoveOn.org, for which he once served as national mobilization director. The young politician won his district’s straw poll and has gone back and forth between leading and running closely behind primary opponent Brad Schneider. Schneider, an engineer and insurance agent, has the support of U.S. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer.
