The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a Ten Commandments statue on capitol grounds must be removed. The state’s Constitution bans using public property to benefit a religion; the statue, which is “obviously religious in nature,” indirectly benefits Jewish and Christian faiths, the court ruled. State Attorney General Scott Pruit has said the court “got it wrong” by ignoring “the profound historical impact of the Ten Commandments on the foundation of Western law.” He plans to file a petition for a rehearing and has requested a stay of the court order.
