Women are often stigmatized for having children at an older age, but some may have the last laugh. Literally. A study from the Boston University School of Medicine found that women who have children at an older age tend to live longer. There are two big caveats, though. “Older” moms are defined as having a child after the age of 33, and the findings only apply to women who conceive without the help of fertility drugs. Still, the women who meet these conditions are twice as likely to live past 95 as women who have their last child by 29. Principal investigator Thomas Perlsa said, “We think the same genes that allow a woman to naturally have a kid at an older age are the same genes that play a really important role in slowing down the rate of aging and decreasing the risk for age-related diseases.”
