Simone Biles proves, once again, that she is a gift.
The four-time Olympic gold medalist has been slaying this season as a competitor on Dancing With the Stars.
Monday night, she performed an energetic foxtrot routine for the show’s judges. They had mixed feelings. While they said her technique was fine, they were concerned over her emotional range on stage.
According to TODAY, DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Biles, “You have this beautiful smile, and you are a megastar with your energy, but once in awhile, there's beauty without a smile. There's beauty in pain and all of the other emotions, and I'd like to see more of that."
Julianne Hough even chimed in, saying, “I don’t know if the smile is authentic because you want to smile, or if it's just because you rehearsed it that way… I really just want to see some rawness come out."
Biles defended herself.
“I've lived in a gym 14 years of my life,” she told the judges. “So it's hard to show something I've never felt before.”
Then came Biles’s second dance of the evening, a fiery Paso trio.
The judges got on her case yet again about not smiling. Biles, who is considered by many to be the greatest gymnast of all time, was not here for round two.
"Smiling doesn't win you gold medals," she said simply.
All hail Queen Simone. We are not worthy.
