Texas's Republican primary day is off to a rocky start, with a campaign worker getting hit in a driveby shooting near a polling place this afternoon. Today, Mitt Romney is expected to officially clinch the party's presidential nomination and Tea Partier Ted Cruz will fight Lt. Governor David Dewhurst for a U.S. Senate seat. Cruz boasts the support of high-profile anti-establishment Republicans such as Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum, but the pro-Dewhurst Texas Conservative Fund has attempted to discredit him by reminding voters that he was born in Canada. Cruz's other opponent, professional football player-turned-politician Craig James, was Google-bombed (à la Rick Santorum) with a rumor that he "killed five hookers" while a student at Southern Methodist University.
