A State Department report reveals a number of captured Taliban insurgents and political separatists have disappeared within the Pakistani government—many times being secretly tortured, detained, or killed. Human rights organizations in Pakistan say that over the past ten years, the country's security groups have been gathering thousands of people in Baluchistan and holding them without charges. Baluchistan is a province that has been fighting for separation, but has nothing to do with the fight against the Taliban. The Obama administration expressed shock with the recent report, and has been trying to confront Pakistan about the vast number of human rights abuses conducted since 9/11. Two months earlier the U.S. rejected a request to train the Pakistani Army suspected of killing unarmed civilians and prisoners citing that "there continue to be gross violations of human rights by Pakistani security forces."
