Patriots Fans Sue NFL for Emotional Distress

Seven fans of the New England Patriots have filed a lawsuit against the National Football League in an attempt to recover the first-round draft pick their beloved team lost as punishment for the “Deflategate” scandal. The suit alleges the league engaged in common law fraud, negligence, racketeering, and the intentional infliction of emotional distress with its “arbitrary and capricious” penalties against the team for allegedly deflating footballs during the 2015 AFC Championship game. One plaintiff—a season-ticket holder from Connecticut—said the league’s treatment of the Pats has left his young daughter emotionally distressed; and a Florida man claims the situation has caused him to lose sleep.
