One week after WikiLeaks unloaded 77,000 classified military documents online, the Pentagon is ordering the whistle-blowing website to give them back. “The Defense Department demands that WikiLeaks return immediately to the U.S. government all versions of documents obtained directly or indirectly from the Department of Defense databases or records,” Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said Thursday. The Pentagon is alleging that the tens of thousands of posted documents gave the Taliban and other militant groups insights into American tactics, troop protection, and informant training in Afghanistan. Officials are particularly concerned with 15,000 additional classified documents that the website has in its possession, and that they haven’t yet made public. Morrell said the Defense Department hopes WikiLeaks will “do the right thing” and hand over the documents, as well as delete them from their website and records. WikiLeaks has not yet responded to the Pentagon’s request.
