It's looking increasingly likely that the criminal case against former Texas Gov. Rick Perry will go to trial. Judge Bert Richardson, a San Antonio Republican, rejected Perry's second request to have his indictment dismissed. On August 15, 2014, Perry was indicted for two felonies on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public official. The charges are in regards to a 2013 incident in which Perry demanded demand to District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign after her DWI. Perry's attorneys could appeal Richardson's decision, but it would take several months and leave his criminal case potentially unresolved heading into the 2016 presidential season.
