The Philippine police chief announced that the country’s world-infamous anti-drug operations will be disbanded after the crackdown was used as a cover to allegedly kidnap and kill a South Korean man for money. Police Director-General Ronald Dela Rosa told police officers that cops who may have been involved in the crimes will be purged from the police force using a counter-intelligence unit. At least 7,000 people have died in the country's anti-drug operations since President Rodrigo Duterte took office last July. “No more drug operations now,” Dela Rosa said. “We have to focus our effort toward internal cleansing and by the time we have cleansed the national police, the president will determine that and he will instruct us to go back to our war on drugs.”
