The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department has launched an official investigation into a plainclothes officer’s fatal shooting of a black Florida musician this past weekend. According to a police statement, Corey Jones, 31, was pulled over on an exit ramp of Interstate 95 in the early hours of Sunday when his vehicle was approached by Officer Nouman Raja, who was not in uniform. Thinking he was investigating an abandoned car, Raja claimed he was “suddenly confronted by an armed subject,” and immediately shot and killed Jones. According to Jones’s family, the deceased was licensed with a legally owned firearm and was likely unaware Raja was a law officer.
