President Obama’s campaign manager in the 2008 presidential election, David Plouffe, has been tapped to help raise money for New York's Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. Following Scott Brown’s upset win of Ted Kennedy’s senate seat, Plouffe was brought to the White House to monitor midterm campaigns and limit Democratic losses. Gillibrand may face a primary challenge from Harold Ford, a former Tennessee congressman, who is traveling New York state as he considers jumping back into politics. Plouffe will be a featured speaker at a Gillibrand fundraiser February 22; his appearance at the $250-a-plate event is evidence that she has the White House’s backing.
