Would an Occupy encampment in Honolulu have been too much of an eyesore for tourists? Police arrested at least six protesters after leaders of the Occupy Honolulu movement attempted to set up an encampment at a local park. The group had said earlier that it would begin to camp at the park at about its 10 p.m. closing time Saturday, and roughly 40 protesters were ready to pitch their tents when police officers arrived on the scene and ordered them to leave. Occupy Honolulu said it also stood “in solidarity” with the homeless people who are being forced to leave streets and parks as the city prepares to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference this week.
