Guatemalan authorities have arrested former President Alfonso Portillo, who is wanted in the U.S. for money-laundering charges. Portillo, who left office in 2004, was arrested on a ranch in the north of the country. The U.S. says he laundered money stolen from a children’s state charity and embezzled state funds, but Portillo’s lawyers say the charges are political. A Guatemalan court approved the U.S. extradition request on Friday.
