An unconfirmed number of people were shot at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., on Sunday morning shortly before 11 a.m. local time. A local alderman said there was still “an active situation” at the temple, which was surrounded by police after initial reports of gunfire. The first officer on the scene encountered and put down an active shooter, according to police. The officer was shot multiple times, but police said he is expected to survive. The Associated Press reported that three male victims were being treated at a nearby trauma center. A SWAT team entered the temple before noon to bring victims outside, and an explosion was heard from within the temple around 1 p.m. Witnesses said that there may be more shooters in the temple.
