Polish Election Goes to Runoff

Looks like Poland won't name its next president for another fortnight: Despite winning the first round of the national election, Poland's acting president, Bronislaw Komorowski, failed to garner an absolute majority, pushing the election into a runoff between Komorowski and his conservative opponent, Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Exit polls show that Komorowski won over 40.7 percent of voters, with Kaczynski trailing him at 35.8 percent. Komorowski's competition is the brother of former President Lech Kaczynski, who died in an April 10 plane crash in Western Russia that also took the lives of several of Poland's top administration officials. The crash pushed the presidential election up six months.
