You mean it doesn't have super powers? Federal regulators sued the makers of the popular pomegranate juice drink POM on Monday for promoting unsupported health benefits. The Federal Trade Commission's suit alleges POM Wonderful LLC of Los Angeles provided advertisements that contain "false and unsubstantiated claims that their products will prevent or treat heart disease, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction." Some ads even claim the juice possesses "super health powers." In March, a company spokesman for POM defended their promotional campaigns. "All statements made in connection with POM products are true and supported by unprecedented scientific research," said the spokesman. The FTC disagrees with this assessment. "Any consumer who sees POM Wonderful products as a silver bullet against disease has been misled," said a FTC director. "Contrary to POM Wonderful's advertising, the available scientific information does not prove that POM Juice or POMx effectively treats or prevents these illnesses."
