The New York Post issued a qualified apology on its editorial page for running a cartoon that some interpreted as racially insensitive after a growing media firestorm threatened to continue for days. On Thursday, Reverend Al Sharpton led a protest against the cartoon, which depicts a cop standing over a dead, gunshot chimp and saying "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill." The New York Post's editorial today read: "To those who were offended by the image, we apologize," but quickly attached an unspecified caveat. "However, there are some in the media and in public life who have had differences with The Post in the past - and they see the incident as an opportunity for payback," the editorial continued. "To them, no apology is due."
