A bomb squad destroyed a pressure cooker found in a “suspicious” car near the Capitol building in Washington and arrested the vehicle’s owner Sunday, a U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman said. Authorities discovered the unattended car near the National Mall and an odor of gasoline, said Lt. Kimberly A. Schneider. A bomb squad was called to the scene and “disrupted the items of concern in the vehicle including the pressure cooker,” and the car owner, Israel Shimeles, was arrested and charged with “operation after revocation.”
