Queen Elizabeth II rang in her 85th birthday Saturday with the "Trooping of the Colors" ceremony. Though the queen's actual birthday is April 21, the historical procession is held every year in June (when London's weather is likely to be at its best) to honor the monarch's birthday. Prince William rode in the procession on horseback, sporting the very same red uniform of the Irish Guards that he wore on his wedding day, while his wife Catherine rode alongside Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, in the royal family's horse-drawn carriage. Prior to the procession, the queen bestowed royal honors on some 965 people—knighting Nobel Prize winner Robert Edwards and bestowing Commander of the British Empire upon actor Colin Firth. Next year, the queen will celebrate the 60th anniversary of her coronation with the Diamond Jubilee.
