The Daily Beast, in conjunction with nine leading international LGBT organizations, is presenting a day of conversations and talks with leading international LGBT activists. The event will generate a set of online resources that will “reverse the megaphone” of the US-Global LGBT conversation, enabling Americans to hear from voices around the world. These will be shared with the Daily Beast’s audience of 20 million monthly readers.
The event is cosponsored by The Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, American Jewish World Service, All Out, IGLHRC, ILGA-Europe, HRC, GLAAD, 76Crimes.com, and Muslims for Progressive Values. It will consist of ten short sessions, each introduced by a high-profile journalist, and featuring activists including Bisi Alimi (Nigeria), Anastasia Smirnova (Russia), Maurice Tomlinson (Jamaica), Meena Seshu (India), Alice Nkom (Cameroon), Nisha Ayub (Malaysia), Kenita Placide (St. Lucia), Parvez Sharma (A Jihad for Love), Xiaogang Wei (China), and Jabu Pereira (South Africa).
This will be a unique opportunity to hear a diverse range of LGBT activists tell their stories, and frame the struggles for equality in their own terms. The event includes lunch and a cocktail hour, with opportunities to network with other activists, journalists, funders, and artists. The talks and other resources we create will be edited, professionally produced, and shared online around the world. Please join us for an unforgettable and powerful day to hear directly from courageous leaders fighting for sexual and gender justice.
Admission is free, but by invitation only, and advance RSVP is required. Lunch will be served. Please RSVP by December 1 here.
