The BBC has set off a diplomatic spat between Britain and Mexico after the hosts of a car program called Top Gear made several racist jokes. “Why would you want a Mexican car? Because cars reflect national characteristics don't they?” asked one host. “Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat." The hosts also said Mexico’s ambassador would be too lazy to complain about their jokes, which turned out to be wrong: The ambassador wrote the BBC a letter, demanding an apology. Previously, Top Gear caused controversy when one of its hosts joked about murdering prostitutes.
