Outspoken libertarian firebrand Rand Paul, the junior Republican senator from Kentucky, huddled with Fox News head Roger Ailes and billionaire News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch. According to Politico, Paul took the meetings as part of a larger strategy “to smooth concerns among Republicans and influencers about whether he shares his famous libertarian father’s views on issues like national security.” As soon as the polls closed in 2012, media speculation over 2016 runs by both Christie and Paul has been rampant. Ailes is known as a Christie ally, and reportedly pushed him to run for president in the last cycle.
