Sen. Rand Paul left a meeting with African-American pastors Friday feeling like the Republican Party needs to ease up on the push for voter-identification laws. “It’s offending people,” Paul told a New York Times reporter after the meeting. This is not the first time Paul has questioned the necessity for voter-ID laws, suggesting that Republicans might be overemphasizing the incidence of voter fraud during a meeting with former Obama adviser David Axelrod last month. Paul’s attitude on the issue certainly seems to be shifting, as last summer he was quoted saying, “I don’t think there is objective evidence that we’re precluding African-Americans from voting any longer.”
