It doesn’t look like Muammar Gaddafi’s promise of money and wage hikes will be enough to save him. Rebels battled for control of Al-Zawiya, took control of Misrata, and, rebel leaders say, sent troops for an offensive into Tripoli, where residents are beginning their first mass demonstrations in days. Meanwhile, in Benghazi, where the protests began, a group of defected military commanders plotted Gaddafi’s fall. “We have a plan to bring down Tripoli," said one of the seven former colonels who have taken charge of rebel forces in the city. International pressure continues to mount against Gaddafi. The U.N. Security Council is meeting Friday to discuss sanctions against the country, Switzerland has frozen Gaddafi’s assets, and when White House spokesman Jay Carney was asked whether the U.S. was considering military intervention, he said, “I’m not ruling anything out.”
