Nearly 60 million people around the world have been displaced by war, conflict, or persecution, according to a United Nations report released Thursday. Refugee agency UNHCR found the number of people driven from their homes jumped to 59.5 million at the end of 2014, which included 19.5 million refugees, 38.2 million internally displaced people, and 1.8 million still awaiting asylum outcomes. More than 50 percent of those displaced were children. The report points out that the staggering new numbers mean one in every 122 people around the world were either a refugee, internally displaced, or seeking asylum.
