Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid used the National Basketball Association’s sharp response to Donald Sterling to remind the National Football League of its own problems with racism. Since NBA Commissioner Adam Silver instituted a lifetime ban on the Los Angeles Clippers owner for his racist remarks, Reid argued it’s high time that NFL Commissioner Roger Godell forced the Washington Redskins to change its name. “The National Football League should take an assist from the NBA and pick up the slack. It would be a slam dunk,” he said. “For far too long, the NFL has been sitting on its hands doing nothing while an entire population of Americans has been denigrated.”
