A year after NPR journalists David Gilkey and Zabihullah Tamanna were killed on assignment in Afghanistan, investigations found new information about their deaths. Rather than being random victims, NPR reported that the two had been specifically targeted after their attackers became aware of the presence of the American convoy in the region. It was also found that Tamanna was shot, rather than killed by a rocket-propelled-grenade, as initial reports indicated.
