According to an investigation by the Tennessee state attorney general, Rep. Jeremy Durham (R-Franklin) sexually harassed at least 22 women, including one woman who nicknamed him “Pants Candy” after he suggestively ran his hands through his pockets before offering her an unwrapped mint. Durham, 32, has been married since 2011, but has reportedly engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with female staff, interns, lobbyists, and political workers. One woman recounted being a 20-year-old college student when Durham pried her for sex with a cooler full of beer. The report alleges that female lobbyists feared losing support for their bills if they came forward about Durham’s behavior; other women feared damage to their careers or reputations. The 48-page report recommends Durham be removed from the General Assembly, and a special legislative committee ultimately decided to let Durham‘s fate rest with the voters this November.
