President Donald Trump reportedly intervened to allow a group of Afghan girls to enter the U.S. for a robotics competition. The six girls were initially denied American visas. According to Politico, the president asked National Security Council officials if they could do anything to allow the girls to participate in the competition. The Department of Homeland Security then decided to grant the girls entry to the U.S. for 10 days. “We could not be prouder of this delegation of young women who are also scientists—they represent the best of the Afghan people and embody the promise that their aspirations can be fulfilled,” said Dina Powell, Trump’s deputy national security adviser for strategy.
