The United Arab Emirates orchestrated the Qatari hack in May that sparked continued upheaval between Qatar and its neighbors, The Washington Post reports. U.S. intelligence officials confirmed that senior members of the UAE government orchestrated the plan to post false quotes calling Iran an “Islamic power” attributed to Qatar’s emir on government and social media sites. The hacks took place on May 24 and caused the Saudis, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt to ban all Qatari media, then sever relations and announce a diplomatic and trade boycott of Qatar.
