At least 29 people were killed by indiscriminate rocket fire hitting two schools, a market, homes, and shops in the Ukrainian city of Mauripol on Saturday. The outbreak of violence came one day after rebels rejected a peace deal and announced they would launch a new offensive against the Ukrainian government. RIA Novosti news agency reported Ukrainian rebel leader Alexander Zakharchenko had said forces launched a new attack in Mauripol. Ukraine's president called an emergency meeting in response to the attacks. "The shelling was carried out by militants. This is very clearly Russian aggression that has caused terrible losses for the residents of the eastern part of our city," said Mariupol mayor Yuriy Khotlubei. The UN estimates 5,100 people have died in clashes in eastern Ukraine since April.
