If at first you fail spectacularly, try, try again. That’s apparently the philosophy of Rudy Giuliani. Bill Kristol, a conservative journalist and Republican insider, says he hears that the former New York mayor is poised to jump into the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Although the 9/11 attacks made Giuliani into a national figure and a national security hawk, his domestic views would make him among the most moderate candidates in the race. But it’s unclear how successful he might be. Giuliani entered the 2008 race as a frontrunner and left after a disastrous showing in Florida—a state into which he had poured nearly all of his resources. Says Kristol, “It seems implausible that Rudy Giuliani could win the nomination. But it's an implausible year.”
